The Jimi Hendrix Experience sold out the Hall easily, supported by Mason, Capaldi, Wood and Frog and The Soft Machine on 18 February, and by Van Der Graaf Generator and Fat Mattress on 24 February. Tensions had been growing between band members and management for several months, but these were put aside for these two concerts, which would be remembered as some of the band’s best and most successful late performances. People were dancing in the aisles, Jimi went mad with the atmosphere and they did Purple Haze and Wild Thing. He played with his teeth and then on the floo. .was beseiged by fans, police, bouncers, floor managers and practically the entire audience!’ Jane Simmons, ‘The Official Jimi Hendrix Fan Club Of Great Britain’ newsletter, April/May 1969. Jimi Hendrix - 1969-02-18 - Royal Albert Hall, London (EAT 34-35) A liberated bootleg of a SBD recording of Jimi Hendrix's first night at the Royal. Mitch Mitchell – drums. Noel Redding – bass guitar, backing vocals. On February 18, 1969, the Jimi Hendrix Experience played the first of two shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The band had played the venue previously, on November 14, 1967, on a bill with Pink Floyd, the Nice, the Move and other sonically adventurous bands of the time. This time, however, the Experience would be the headliner, playing first on the 18th and again on the 24th to a sold-out house. Jimi’s great talent had grown in the 15 months since the 1967 show.
