For six months this is pretty much all I did, Mr. Stevens said recently at a coffee shop in Midtown Manhattan. Every day I’d say, ‘. I’m going to go to these six places,’ and I’d go off by bike or walking. A lot of stores would say, ‘We like your project, but please come back another time. It’s an underground hit on a global scale - or however much records can be a hit these days, said Joe D’Espinosa, a co-owner of the store.
Underground Album is Coe's follow-up to his 1978 album Nothing Sacred. The album was generally criticized as being profane, racist, and crude.

Length of Walk 16:39
Walking throughout the installation with a metal detector, allowing the orientation of the buried steel rebar to direct my movements.
Duet was performed with artist, Shane Huffman. Recording simultaneously, we moved around the installation, responding to each other and the buried sculpture intuitively. The two recorded tracks are overlapped and presented here at equal volume.
Vertical Scan 1:30
Horizontal Scan 1:22
Walking in fifteen foot intervals along the y-axis (Vertical Scan) and x-axis (Horizontal Scan) of the installation to create an auditory topographical map.
2 Detectors, 1 Person 7:13
Walking with two detectors, one in each hand.
Internal Mic and Line-In 9:23
Using both the internal mic and line-in to capture the sound of wind, footsteps and the metal detector.
All recordings 33 1/3 rpm
