The Dream Syndicate plans to release its first new album in 29 years, a collection that bandleader Steve Wynn has revealed will feature a guest vocal by founding bassist Kendra Smith - who has sat out the ongoing reunion, but agreed to appear on a song Wynn calls the perfect. The album’s title has not yet been announced, nor a release date confirmed.

The Dream Syndicate is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California, originally active from 1981 to 1989, and reunited since 2012. The band is associated with neo-psychedelia and the Paisley Underground music movement; of the bands in that movement, according to the Los Angeles Times, the Dream Syndicate "rocked with the highest degree of unbridled passion and conviction. Though never commercially successful, the band met with considerable acclaim, especially for its songwriting and guitar playing. She was replaced in the Dream Syndicate by David Provost. Post-Kendra Smith years (1984–1989). Medicine Show was recorded in 1984 in San Francisco with producer Sandy Pearlman and released that year by A&M Records. Live! (1984, A&M Records).

A founding member of the Dream Syndicate, Kendra Smith was also one of the creative forces behind the California psychedelic band Opal in the mid-'80s. She left during the band's final tour and was replaced by Hope Sandoval (Opal changed its name to Mazzy Star after that tour). Her deadpan vocal delivery adds another layer of individuality to an offbeat album by an offbeat artist.

Kendra Smith of Dream Syndicate bio: Having previously played bass for 80s paisley underground outfits the Dream Syndicate and Opal (who became Mazzy Star after she left), Kendra Smith moved to the woods of Northern California in the early '90s. Her two solo releases are The Guild of Temporal Adventurers (1992) and Five Ways Of Disappearing (1995): a 13-song collection melding psychedelic, folk and dream pop styles.

Kendra Smith (born 14 March 1960, San Diego, California) is an American musician who was a founding member of Dream Syndicate, a member of Opal, and later recorded as a solo artist.
