Legends of the Grand Ole Opry.

The Grand Ole Opry is a weekly country music concert show in Nashville, Tennessee which began as a radio barn dance on November 28, 1925 by George D. Hay and has since became one of the genre's most enduring and revered stages. Each show consists of multiple guest artists as well as Opry members, who are selected by Opry management based on several factors including critical and commercial success, respect for the history of country music and commitment to appearing on the program

Willie Nelson was already nearly 30 by the time his career as a songwriter, and then a performer, began to make inroads on the Nashville scene of the early 1960s. On 28 November 1964, he made a new career breakthrough when he was afforded the accolade of a debut performance at the Grand Ole Opry.

The Grand Ole Opry is one of the most legendary and respected entities in country music. Although hundreds of artists have played on the Opry stage, the invitation to become an official member of the Opry is reserved for a very select group of people. The decision of who gets an invite to be an Opry member is made at the discretion of the show's producers and does not follow a strict set of rules. In general, artists who are invited to become members have to have reached a high standard of recognition within the industry and have played the stage at the Opry multiple times in the past. Many country legends, including Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard, have never been inducted as members of the institution. Still, in recent years the Opry has inducted artists after just a few years of mainstream success. So what makes an artist important enough to get the attention of the Opry?

Legends of the Grand Ole Opry - Willie Nelson Singing His Hits LIVE!" is a welcome release of classic performances recorded between 1964 and 1967 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN for broadcast on the Grand Ole Opry.
