The Orion Music + More was a touring music festival created by American thrash metal/heavy metal band Metallica. On February 7, 2012, the band announced plans to launch the festival, which took place at Bader Field in Atlantic City on June 23 and 24, 2012.
The second annual Orion Music + More will be held in Detroit on June 8-9, 2013. Even though no acts have been revealed just yet - aside from headliners Metallica, of course - if 2012’s Orion was any indication, then next year’s lineup should be impressive. METALLICA surprised fans at Orion Music + More on June 8 by playing its 1983 debut disc "Kill 'Em All" from beginning to end on a smaller stage at the event. METALLICA was officially announced to play a headlining set on June 9 to close out the festival, but hit the stage at 4:30 . one day earlier for a 10-song set that started with "Hit The Lights" and finished out with "Metal Militia" . At last year's Orion festival, METALLICA played both 1991's self-titled "black album" and 1984's "Ride The Lightning" in their entirety on separate nights.
The second annual Orion Music + More Festival will take place on Detroit's Belle Isle on June 8 and 9. The festival, created and headlined by the hard rock group Metallica, debuted in 2012 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Festival lineup includes 30 acts on five stages, including groups like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bassnectar. Gary Graff is the music writer for the Oakland Press and is a dedicated observer of the music scene in Detroit and in Michigan.
Orion Music + More will feature more than 30 bands across 5 live music stages plus a lifestyle element that reflects each of Metallica’s band members many personal interests. The inaugural Orion Music + More was held in 2012 in Atlantic City, NJ with headliners Metallica, Arctic Monkeys and Avenged Sevenfold.
