The debut album by British punk rock band The Clash was released on April 8th, 1977. Upon it’s release, it was met with great praise and shot up to the spot on the United Kingdom Album Charts. By the time it made its way over to the United States in 1979, it was praised even more. The album even had the pleasure of having Robert Christgau of the Village Voice saying it’s the greatest rock and roll album ever manufactured in the anywhere. Decades after its release, it’s still held as one of the greatest punk albums ever made

The Clash - One More Time Lyrics. Must I get a witness for all this misery? There's no need to brothers everybody can see That it's one more time in the ghetto you know One more time if you please now One more time to the dying man They say one more time if you please. The old lady kicks karate For just a little walk down the street The little baby he knows kung fu He tries it on those he meets Cos' it's a one more time! You don't need no silicone to calculate poverty Watch when Watts town burns again The bus goes to Montgomery

Their first album explored obsessions like robotics, Ronald McDonald and cannibalistic apes, making devolution feel like the future. You can hear echoes of the Descendents and Misfits, among other punk staples, within the polished tunes on their breakthrough album.

Though the cliché about punk rock was that the bands couldn't play, the key to the Clash is that although they gave that illusion, they really could play - hard. The charging, relentless rhythms, primitive three-chord rockers, and the poor sound quality give the album a nervy, vital energy. Joe Strummer's slurred wails perfectly compliment the edgy rock, while Mick Jones' clearer singing and charged guitar breaks make his numbers righteously anthemic

Notes

Recorded at the Brixton Academy, December 6, 1984. Most of the (at the time) newer songs are given incorrect titles on the back sleeve ("Are You Red..y" is listed as "Ready For War" and so on), so this record must have come out at some point before the November 1985 release of the "Cut The Crap" LP.
