Biography by Linda Seida. Along with playing guitar and drums in over a dozen bands, singer-songwriter has an eclectic solo career.

Chris Brokaw was born on August 1, 1964, in New York City. After college, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, relocating to Seattle, Washington in 2011. He began recording and performing with Codeine (on drums & guitar) in 1990. In 1992, he left that band to pursue songwriting, singing and guitar playing with Come.

Chris Brokaw (born August 1, 1964) is an American musician, mostly known for his work with the bands Come and Codeine, in addition to his many collaborations and original soundtracks. His outlier, underground status, in addition to his constant touring, abundant collaborative projects, and prolific musical output, have resulted in Brokaw being repeatedly described as 'one of the hardest-working musicians in anti-show-business.

The Avalanche (styled The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois Album! on the cover) is a 2006 album by indie rock singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens, consisting of outtakes and other recordings from the sessions for his album Illinois, released the previous year.

The album cover was drawn by renowned artist Sandy Dvore, who did album covers in the 1960s for Buffalo Springfield and Leonard Nimoy and title sequences in the 19702 for the TV show The Partridge Family and the movie Blacula. He composed this drawing after listening to Chris' album. See a large version of the cover. Milo Jones directed the video of "Swimming, Tuesday", the first song from the album. Chris Brokaw grew up in and around New York City and moved to Boston in 1986. His first distinguished foray into rock was in 1990 as the drummer for slow-core progenitors Codeine, who by themselves seemed to establish a whole new sub-genre in music. After an LP and EP released over two years, Chris left the New York-based Codeine to play exclusively in Boston band Come, with whom he'd been playing guitar for about a year as well.
