The first Modularz release on wax features three tunes previously available in digital format, on "Entrada" [MOD003], and Truncate's Contrasts 2 remixed by Santiago Salazar which could be found on "Contrasts" [MOD002].Silent Servant, who has been creating a massive buzz recently with his input in the Tropic Of Cancer project, delivers the expected goods with El Selvaje, a tune in the finest Sandwell District school of production; sparse yet profound sound with plenty echoing effects bouncing off each other, with thumping yet linear and elegant percussion, giving the music plenty of space to breathe, and a slight Basic Channel touch, if they had ever wanted to bring the bpm rate a few notches up. Try the fifth (or at least I think it's that one) release on the Horizontal Ground label if you like El Salvaje.Developer's Entrada is a groovy dance floor work out with lazy beats serving a compelling groove, a playful witty hook which at times made me think of Alex Under's older work (or is just me talking trash?), and a memorable brief violin passage in the background. Mildly paced, utterly addictive, this one can move the floor in any desired direction. Not for the peak hours, but it'll force the crowd into a cozy groove in no time. But for me, it all comes down to Moving Forward In Reverse. A tough, true school Basic Channel offering, undergoing barely noticeable variations, subtle tonal shifts emphasized by massive reverberation, and the lot gets gently suffocated by the abstruse bass, which is extending to, or coming from a great depth. A hypnotic masterpiece, where the real treats reveal themselves through careful listening sessions on good headphones.Anyways, more than worth owning for the two inside cuts, which are rooted in the state of the present demand techno sound, but retain that something extra which makes them stand out. Be it the dream like feel of the music or the mesmerizing, snuggled down flow, both contributions are a pleasure to listen to. Although the whole thing does the trick in a club, I prefer listening to "Entrada EP" in a more relaxed, should I say informal environment, such as my living room, so I can take my shoes off and all.Gotta keep an eye out for Developer.
