The Lovin' Spoonful is an American rock band, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and well known for a number of hit songs in the 1960s including "Summer in the City", "Do You Believe In Magic", "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?", and "Daydream". The band had its roots in the folk music scene based in the Greenwich Village section of lower Manhattan during the early 1960s.

About Summer in the City. The 1966 NY summer hit by the Lovin' Spoonful, the only pure Rock hit by the folk-rock band. It was written by the band’s leader, John Sebastian and his brother, Mark, as a high school assignment for which he got an ‘F’. It stayed for 3 weeks on top of the Billboard chart that summer. Everything Playing is an album by The Lovin' Spoonful, released in 1967. Everything Playing was the first album featuring guitarist Jerry Yester (who replaced Zal Yanovsky) and the last commercial album as a quartet; principal songwriter and lead singer John Sebastian would leave the group in June 1968 for a solo career. With only five originals on their debut release, Daydream introduced the rising songwriting talents of lead vocalist John Sebastian who either wrote or co-wrote all the songs on this release except for one cover tune. Daydream was re-released on CD in 2002 by Buddah Records and included five bonus tracks. The song "Butchie's Tune" was featured during the final scene of the Mad Men season five episode "Commissions and Fees".
