The material covers five decades. The "Five Pieces for Piano" go back to the 1940s. Anepigraphe" and "Futility 1964" have the typical crudeness of early musique concrète. Made of large gestures, it conveys the grandeur and a certain aspiration at changing the world tape music nurtured back then.

Herbert Brün (July 9, 1918 – November 6, 2000) was a composer and pioneer of electronic and computer music. Born in Berlin, Germany, he taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1962 until he retired, several years before his death. Brün left Germany in 1936 to study piano and composition at the Jerusalem Conservatory (later renamed Israel Academy of Music) in (then) Palestine with Stefan Wolpe, Eli Friedman and Frank Pelleg. While in Palestine, he also worked as a jazz pianist

This happened to me with Brün's music, too, especially with early electronic works like Anepigraphe (1958), Klänge Unterwegs (1961), and computer-generated works composed after his move to Urbana, such as Infraudibles (1967-1968) and the works of the Sawdust project (since the mid 1970s). In my experience as a listener, another similar type of musical sound came from the hard-edged analog sounds of Koenig's Funktionen (1968-1969).

Herbert Brün – Klänge Unterwegs c/w Anepigraphe. Tzarina Q Cut – Bees On Hali . Ernst Jandl – Hosi und Anna. Ernst Jandl (1925-2000) appeared on the Austrian sound poetry scene around 1965, just after the demise of the Wiener Gruppe – it is with this heritage and in this context in mind his work is best envisaged.

Notes

Includes 8-page 12"x12" booklet with the text of the record (in German).

From the inside cover:
"Klänge Unterwegs" ["Wayfaring Sounds"] is the titel [sic] of a composition for electronically produced sounds, and the heading of a collection of answers and comments to questions that most frequently arise in discussions about "electronic music".
The record offers a brief introduction into the world of electronic sound as well as the compositions "Wayfaring Sounds" and "Anepigraphe".
The supplementary text consists of various sections, in which I try to state my point-of-view on some of the questions that are brought up, time and again, by visitors that come to the studio or concerts and lectures.
Music lovers, technicians and students of all faculties asked the most and the most interesting questions. In this way I have been able to deal with the subject more broadly, than would have been possible if I had confined myself to professional circles.
It has become obvious that behind the simple question: "How does one produce electronic sounds?", usually lies hidden the more important questions, as to whether and how music can be created with electronic sounds. It is mainly this problem that I deal with here, and, therefore, I have called what I wrote "reflections more or less pertaining to the theme".
The theme of all work in a studio for electronic music is music.
