Beat Konducta - Vol. 5-6: A Tribute To... FLAC album

Madlib pays tribute to the late J Dilla, a producer with whom he created the classic Champion Sound. It's been three years since Yancey's untimely death and his grip on the imagination and inspiration of hip-hop artists still hasn't loosened- and somehow, for the most part, hasn't crumbled into exploitative shamelessness. As an elegy, a payment of a ged artistic debt and an expansion of one man's sound, the fifth and sixth volumes of Madlib's Beat Konducta series are a stirring culmination of everything Dilla did to affect Madlib as a musician. Granted, there's little mistaking it for anyone other than Madlib: There's a constant volley of vocal snippets, lyrical and otherwise, that fit his thematic blend of fragmented quasi-narrative and off-kilter humor.

Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: Dil Cosby & Dil Withers is a 42-track tribute to the late J Dilla. Madlib and J. Rocc – arguably Dilla’s closest musical compatriots during his time spent in Los Angeles – lovingly remember their friend and reflect on his boundless influence. As was the case with Donuts and in keeping with the Beat Konducta’s all-embracing musical bent, this album does not settle into one groove for too long. The result is a transfixing, sometimes jarring, and always soulful homage to the man Madlib crowned King Of The Beats. Additional information. The album was stylistically a companion to (James Yancey) J Dilla's Donuts, which was released a month earlier just before Yancey's death (Dil Cosby and Dil Withers Suite) in 2008, which is a tribute to Yancey.
