The Real Thing is the third studio album by American rock band Faith No More, released on June 20, 1989 by Slash and Reprise Records. It was the first major release by the band not to feature vocalist Chuck Mosley. Instead, the album featured Mike Patton from the experimental/funk band Mr. Bungle
I know the feeling It is the real thing The essence of the truth The perfect moment That golden moment I know you feel it too I know the feeling It is the real thing You can't refuse the embrace. It's like the pattern below the skin You gotta reach out and pull it all in And you feel like you're too close So you swallow another dose The pinnacle of happiness Filling up your soul You don't think you can take any more You never wanna let go To touch the roots of experience The most basic. Track 6 and the title track on The Real Thing, Faith No More’s first album with Mike Patton. The Real Thing" Track Info. 8. The Morning After. 9. Woodpecker From Mars.
And his influence is very noticeable on the electro-funk of "No More Tears" and "It's the Real Thing," as well as softer, more relaxed cuts like "Please Bring Your Love Back," "Precious" and "Menage A Trois" (which isn't an ode to kinky sex, but a call for monogamy and fidelity). For all its slickness and high-tech production gloss, this is an album with plenty of soul and grit. I've Learned to Respect (The Power of Love).
But while The Real Thing represents an important chapter in Faith No More's history, there's a reason why the album barely registers on the setlists of the band's current tour: a lot of it is hard to extricate from its date of origin. And that's a function of both its connection to a long-past funk-metal zeitgeist and the band's own subsequent development. And in spite of showcasing Bottum's crucial keyboard work, pop songs like "Falling to Pieces" and "Underwater Love" didn't do much to dissuade skeptics who had pegged Faith No More as Chili Peppers copyists. The band's next album, however, would ensure no one ever confused Patton with Anthony Kiedis ever again. Angel Dust was hardly the spiteful act of career suicide their nervous major-label minders at Warner Bros. anticipated-it actually cracked the Billboard Top 10 and went gold in the . while selling loads more in Europe.
The Real Thing finally gets a much-needed remaster, at least. Most of you have probably heard news about upcoming Angel Dust and Real Thing reissues, and the latest statements seem imply that these are band sponsored releases. In fact, they are Warners/Rhino re-issues (who still own the license to them). But Perfect Crime appeared on the soundtrack to Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, released by Interscope and not Warner Bros. so it presumably would’ve cost a little more to acquire. But it would have been an interesting side-by-side comparison. The second disc is filled out with a handful of the aforementioned middling quality live tracks.
Title: The Thing Called Love (1993). FINAL WORD: "That Thing Called Love" may not be a great country music film like "Coal Miner's Daughter" but it's pretty solid and highlighted by the brooding charisma of River Phoenix. He was great and it's a pity he died so prematurely.
